Sammy The Bull Gravano Spills Gambino Secretsagain

NJ Wines Culinary Series with Audrey Gambino

Back in the day, John Gotti the notorious boss of the Gambino crime family sat down at his Queens home to enjoy a Sunday dinner of chicken cacciatore made by his wife Victoria .

He said, Butch, this is really good, recalled their daughter, Victoria. Then he noticed the bottle of burgundy Butch had used in the sauce. He started laughing and held up the bottle and said, Are you always in the habit of cooking with a thousand dollar bottle of wine?

Her face was priceless, Victoria said. She had no clue.

Gotti, who died of cancer in 2002 while serving a life prison sentence on charges of murder and racketeering, loved his sauce.

But the Dapper Don wouldnt settle for any cheap Chianti. He reportedly savored Rémy Martin Louis XIII Cognac before heading off to prison in 1992. He also built up a prized collection of wine that is wowing experts.

Some three dozen of his bottles are now up for sale at the Long Island City wine shop Enoteca LIC. I was completely blown away, said Tony DAiuto, the shops owner and Juniors criminal-defense attorney, recalling the moment he first saw the bottles in the wine cellar of Juniors Long Island home. These are some of the best wines in the world.

Among them are nine Pétruses, four Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Grands Echezeaux, and several Rothschilds, going for from $1,800 to $9,500 a bottle. He already sold one Pétrus for more than $5,000, and said that Junior is donating proceeds from the consignment to charity.

Thousands Of Happy Visitors Customers And Wine Enthusiasts

LINDSEY

My husband and I visited Gambino winery and had such an amazing visit here!! The drive up the windy mountain road is well worth it when you see the spectacular views and beautiful vineyards at the top. We visited two of their tasting rooms and ended up having food with our tasting in the upper tasting room that was a lovely experience.

We really appreciated all the time everyone spent with us, which added such a personal touch to the experience. The wines were wonderful and an excellent price, and we would highly recommend anyone visit Gambino winery if they have the chance while visiting Sicily!!

DAVID

We’ve been to a lot of wine farms and we really enjoyed this experience because, despite its size, this was a really personal experience. We ordered a food and wine pairing and really enjoyed the detailed explanations of local history, the grapes, the winemaking process and the wines themselves.

PHILIP

We visited Gambino Winery as part of a private tour of Mount Etna which we booked with Bruno. The wine tasting was 5 stars, one for each glass we had. I was really impressed overall with the quality of food and wine offered and by the end we were so full we couldnt eat any more.

A Star Is Born The History Of The Family Winery

The story of the Gambino family goes back to 1978 when Vittorio Raciti bought the property and dedicated the land to his wife, Maria Gambino. Since then the brothers Gambino, Francesco and Filadelfo mix tradition and new technologies in their wine making process.

Today the winery includes 25 hectares in Linguaglossa, the heart of Etna, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and close to beautiful Taormina.

Made with 70% Carricante and 30% Catarratto, this bone-dry, racy white is all about energy. With almost knife-like precision, the lean, radiant palate offers yellow pear, Meyer lemon and saline mineral notes alongside vibrant acidity. It’s rather austere and isn’t your usual white, but fans of this tense, focused style will love it. Drink through 2024. Kerin OKeefe
