Canonized as one of the original Cult Cabernet Sauvignons in the New World, in part by their singular approach of using American oak barrels and additional bottle age that combine to project distinctive dark berries, dried herbs, and subtle dill notes. This sets Silver Oak apart as one of the most recognizable names and unique tastes in premium level Cabernet Sauvignon. With a proven track record that spans more than 4 decades of producing wines that are incredibly age-worthy, yet enjoyable upon release, Silver Oak has carved out a category with their distinctive style, and its resonated deeply within their fan base. In a stellar vintage like 2014, many of those qualities that make Silver Oak so distinctive become even more enhanced.

Don’t Miss: How To Pack Wine Bottles For Moving

Silver Oak: Quintessential American Cabernet

Last October, our first-ever allocation of Silver Oaks Napa Valley Cabernet from the 2013 vintage disappeared within hours of our email going out. Earlier this year, we debuted the 2014 vintage to the same results. After months of calls and emails, were wrestled a few more bottles from the mailing list: 13 cases of the stellar 2014 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon are available today, in perfect condition from Silver Oaks headquarters and ready to ship now.

With Silver Oak, we take our relationship with the Duncan family quite seriously, so whenever third-generation family member, Matt Duncan, calls about meeting, we drop everything and oblige himand thats exactly how we landed this second allocation of a truly stunning Cabernet Sauvignon.

Earlier this year, we rode the elevator up to the top floor of the Archer Hotel in downtown Napa. Matt was already sitting at a table, talking with Nate Weis, Silver Oak & Twomeys Vice President of Wine Growing. He greeted us with his usual warm smile as we eyed a bottle of 2014 Silver Oak Napa Cabernet already decanting. Have a seat, he said. Grinning, he poured the inky-black elixir into our glasses. Mind if we have some wine?

As the last drops from the decanter trickled out into glasses, Nate let us in on one juicy story: I wore a suit and tie to my interview and Matts uncle, CEO & Proprietor David Duncan, just looked at me and said, What the hell are you wearing?

The 14 is ALL THAT. Everything you know and love about Silver Oak, turned up to 10. Lush, hedonistic Cabernet fruit, licorice, cigar box and mocha flavors all in a finely-tuned, succulent structure. Impossible to not drink right now! Though as many of you know, it has the stuffing to age too!

Heres the winery take on it: Our 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has an opaque crimson color with a purplish hue. The alluring nose draws you in with notes of cassis, black cherry, pipe tobacco, salted caramel, cocoa beans and fresh strawberry. This full-bodied wine enters with a depth of flavor and offers mouth-coating, velvety tannins and flavors of cream soda and red fruit. Black currant and vanilla notes crescendo through the palate to the lengthy finish. This wine is drinkable upon release, but given proper cellaring conditions can be enjoyed through 2040.
