The much anticipated release of Blankiet Estate Prince of Hearts is here, and oh boy was it worth the wait. This wine is stunningly fine and elegant. Incredibly prefumed with red fruit, violet, cedar box and spices. Limited.previous vintage 96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: “The Prince of Hearts Red is based on 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot, all aged 18 months in 50% new French oak. Its another seamless, elegant wine from the estate that has remarkable complexity in its sandalwood, spice box, chocolate, and cassis and blueberry-like fruits. Hitting the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless texture, and ultra-fine tannins, it can be drunk today or cellared for 15+ years. Its another beautiful wine from this team that has both power and finesse.

91 Points Antonio Galloni:Blankiet’s entry-level Prince of Hearts is gorgeous in 2017. Silky, perfumed and light on its feet, Prince of Hearts is a wine of understatement and nuance more than anything else. Sweet floral and spice notes add brightness and lift to a core of sweet red berry fruit. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade or so.”

Best buy From esteemed Napa Winemaker, Benoit Touquette, the 2016 Arbalest Bordeaux Rouge is one of the best buys in Red Bordeaux we’ve discovered! A fruit-forward wine oozing juiciness and deep, dark flavors. On the nose, the slight scent of cedar and truffle tell you its predominantly Merlot.

February 15, 2021 – Birthday at Blankiet: I was and remain prepared to love the 2018 Prince of Hearts unfortunately, it was extremely tight and had little time to breathe during our tasting. Beyond tannin, I could only make out some rather dark red fruit, mid-palate Merlot lift, and notes of leather and pencil shavings. I expect lots of upside with age/aeration, yielding a balanced, classy wine that will represent outstanding value at this price point. Check in every couple of years from 2022 – 2032.

Blankiet Prince of Hearts Proprietary Red 2015

May 14, 2021 – At our Blankiet tasting in February, the 2018 Prince of Hearts was 100% potential: clearly great stuff buried deep under a wall of tannins. I hoped that air might help reveal some of its secrets, but after 7-10 hours of decanting, no such luck. It was still astringent and tight, merely hinting at all there is to look forward to in 4-8 years, with prime drinking even further off from that. Today, this is still just too young. Hold.

In 1996, Claude and Katherine Blankiet had the opportunity to view an undeveloped hillside property behind Dominus Napanook vineyard and purchased the site without hesitation, naming it Paradise Hills. The vineyard experiences a cooler terroir than other parts of Napa Valley due to its eastern exposure with bright sunny mornings and cool, shady afternoons, preserving natural acidity as temperatures rise later in the day, producing exquisitely balanced, focused fruit.

Viticulturist David Abreu and winemaker Helen Turley extensively studied the different soil compositions in the vineyard, dividing it into four distinct blocks with strategically selected rootstocks and clonal varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The 96 point 2016 Prince of Hearts captures the essence of this top estate, presented with a supple mouthfeel and exceptional balance made possible by the sites complex terroir and the wine teams diligence in the vineyard and cellar.
