Non Alcoholic Red Wines

Zero Alcohol Red Wines – Tasted and Rated

Price: Approx. $15 from Sans Drinks, Craftzero

Quick facts:

  • 4.2g/100ml of sugar
  • 0.5% alcohol

I am so impressed with this booze free red wine! And I think this would top my list currently for the best alcohol free red wine that actually tastes like wine! Id say the oak aging definitely helps give it that real wine taste.

Maybe also the cork closure helps impart some flavour, or it could be because I sipped it out of a Riedel WineWings Cabernet Sauvignon glass. Who knows, however the bottle was emptied and we bought a second bottle!

The wine hails from America, California to be exact and the alcohol is removed by gentle cold filtration. It is low in sugar and can be cellared for up to 3 years!

La Brewery Sparkling English Rose Kombucha

Similarly to sparkling tea, kombucha isn’t actually based on wine but has a distinctly tangy flavour and touch of acidity reminiscent of a fine bubbly. L.A Brewery’s sparkling rose kombucha has been finely crafted at its Suffolk microbrewery as a homage to English sparkling wines, and showcases the countryside’s rich foraging heritage. Tangy assam and white monkey green tea provide a delicate base for floral infusions of organic white rose petals and wild elderflower. We enjoyed the gentle effervescence of this drink along with the fine balance of fresh citrus flavours and wildflowers on the nose, culminating in a crisp, dry finish. Best served chilled as an aperitif or celebratory drink. We think it’s well worth the price for a high-end champagne alternative based on quality teas.

Rawsons Retreat Cabernet Sauvignon

Best non-alcoholic red wine

ABV: 0.5%

This is made by Australian wine giant Penfolds. It has a dark, spicy nose and on the palate really tastes like wine, theres some acidity, body and its not too sweet. Fades very fast though and then, poof, its gone. Less than 0.5% alcohol.

Leitz Eins Zwei Zero Riesling

Best non-alcoholic German wine

ABV: 0.0%

Smells a bit funny initially with some earthy notes on the nose, but on the palate it really tastes like a German riesling with peachy fruit and that characteristic blend of sweetness and acidity. This actually made me want another glass.

Luminara Chardonnay Alcohol Removed

Martin Moran picks the best no

Luminara Chardonnay Alcohol Removed is a California de-alcoholized wine from the Napa Valley, leaving it with flavors of apples and lemon cream.

Luminara is a brand made specifically to create non-alcoholic wines, and its fruit is fresh from the Napa Valley.

The fruit from Napa Valley leaves the flavors rich but keeps Chardonnays usual drier flavor.

There is less than a percentage of alcohol in this white wine with its crisp aftertaste.

Luminara Chardonnay Alcohol Removed is a perfect alternative for someone who loves the flavors of Chardonnay but needs a zero alcohol diet.

I was wowed by how authentic it tastes with its fruit notes boldly shining through.

Lyres Classico Non Alcoholic Sparkling In A Can

Price: Directly from Lyres for about $4 per can in a 24 pack for $99

I wouldnt say this unique spirit has been impossibly crafted to capture the essence of a sparkling wine is spot on in terms of sparkling wines I know and love. However I did find a can of Lyres rather enjoyable. In fact I found all 4 rather enjoyable

To me, it would be kind of like an off-dry fruity prosecco. Incredibly easy to consume around the pool on a hot day. Theres citrus notes, granny smith apple and some creamy peach in there too alongside a whiff of florals. Plus the can format makes it easy to take for picnics, to the beach, etc which is also very handy.

Hill Street Beverages Vin

Hill Street Beverages is a Canadian company that produces both non-alcoholic wines and beers, and makes cannabis-infused beverages as well. The collection of wines currently includes five options that many other non-alcoholic winemakers currently offer, including a merlot, chardonnay, sparkling brut blanc, shiraz rosé, and cabernet sauvignon. The wines are called Vin and each have a different style of dancer, vaguely reminiscent of the grape origin, on the label. While not much information is given on how Hill Street dealcoholizes the wines, the website mentions a “proprietary process to remove alcohol.”

This particular brand can sometimes be a little more difficult to lay your hands on here in the states, but can be found for a reasonable price through specialty importers like Better Rhodoes and Boisson, although prices vary widely from one retailer to another. The description of the merlot from Boisson reads, “ven if you’re not a big fan of Merlot, I would still suggest this wine, simply because its so drinkable. It’s intensely red, like the juice squeezed out of a blackberry on to vanilla ice cream. It’s kinda got this curranty thing going on too, but more blackberry, maybe some blueberries in there.” That sounds pretty juicy and luscious to us. For red wine lovers looking for a non-alcoholic option, these are worth a try if you happen to come across a bottle.

Giesen Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 0% Alcohol

Giesen Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 0% Alcohol finds a way to have even fewer calories than our previous non-alcoholic wine on our list and still keeps its delicious flavor.

With notes of lime, lemony shortbread, and other fruity, citrusy flavors, this wine is crisp and refreshing.

With the lack of alcohol, this Sauvignon Blanc is full of energy and leaves you feeling great after a glass or two. With a hint of dryness, its not overly sweet with a perfect balance.

Their vineyard is located in New Zealand where, instead of making non-alcoholic wine from scratch, they remove the alcohol from the wine once its been made.

This process provides a bold and flavorful taste that I find impressive!

How We Tested Non

Sober-Curious: Alcohol-Free Wine, Cocktails and Spirits Grow in Popularity

All wines were stored and served at the temperatures suggested by the producer. Each one was tasted in the same style of glass for the first taste, and then in a wine glass best suited to the grape variety. We were looking for bottles that accurately evoked the characteristics of the wines they were emulating, but more importantly, seeking flavour and complexity that would please both drinkers and non-drinkers alike.

How To Choose The Best Non

Not all AF wines are created equal, especially if they’re made by stripping the alcohol from cheap bulk wine . “What makes for a good non-alcoholic wine is something that doesn’t try hard to resemble wine to begin with,” says Cooper. “I know that sounds wild, but the best non-alcoholic wines contain some fruit flavor, but they don’t taste stale, bitter, or worse, metallic.”

I was recommended this non alcoholic wine by the lovely @nuttyaboutwinesmee and I have to admit, I did enjoy it. It has slightly more sugar than the Noughty sparkling mentioned above, however it still comes across as dry and lives up to its crispy bubble labelling.

I actually found a lot of yummy flavours in this one from apples to melon, pineapple and even a hint of banana passionfruit notes.

Types Of Non Alcoholic Wine

Sorry to disappoint purists, but the varieties of non alcoholic wine do come close to equalling their alcoholic counterparts. Popular varieties of red non alcoholic wine include Cabernet Sauvignons, Pinot Noirs, Merlots and some particular blends that are just as enjoyable as conventional ones. Common varieties of white non alcoholic wine can also include Chardonnays, Pinot Grigios and the always popular varieties of non alcoholic champagnes.

Manufacturers have gotten much more imaginative in the past thirty-odd years when non-alcoholic wines first started popping up on the market so if the days of sparkling grape juice still make you shudder, fret not. A little careful looking, and youre just as likely to find one to suit your tastes as you will their traditional counterparts.
