Many of us purchase our wine at grocery stores they are an essential place to shop for wine. However, its been almost 18 months since I last went over the Whole Foods Market wine selection. My attention was caught recently at a tasting of wine and cheese at Whole Foods, where I was really impressed by the quality of the wines consumed, particularly for the price. Do you want to see my selections for this summer?

Despite the downpour outside, the store appeared bright, airy, and warm there was also enough signage to assist you in your choice. It might have been the time of day or bad weather, but I nearly had the store to myself.

On this trip to the supermarket, I kept thinking to myself, Theres something for everyone. From the huge range of low-cost wines under $10 to some of my favorite high-end Pinot Noirs from California like Cobb Wines and William Seylem in the $75+ price range, and everything in between, I discovered everything.

Whole Lotta Booze: Wellesley Whole Foods Opens Beer & Wine Shop

March 25, 2018 by Bob Brown

Whole Foods Market in Wellesley has opened up its jammed-pack beer and wine section in the former community room at the supermarket on Washington Street. Whole Foods still serves up coffee at the entrance to the beer/wine section.

The wine room features over 700 selections of wine, many selected by Whole Foods Markets global Master Sommelier. There are also over 20 feet of craft beer selections with a focus on local brews. Whole Foods Market Wellesley also features over 25 Highly Rated wines that are 90 points and above, featured in its cheese department.

Whole Foods got the OK from the town in October to start selling beer and wine, and has been scattering offerings throughout the store in recent months, awaiting the conversion of its nearly 2,000 sq. ft. community room into a beer/wine sales center.

Whole Foods already had been selling alcohol in 5 stores across the state.

Fells Market became the first retailer in Wellesley to start selling beer and wine back in 2014 after voters approved a change to town bylaws.

The town can dole out a total of 6 licenses, 3 apiece to food stores and specialty food stores .

Despite being owned by Amazon now, there have been no talks at least for the Wellesley store to offer delivery of alcoholic beverages, a store representative said at the BoS meeting back in the fall.

Meanwhile, Party On!

Whole Foods Forced To Close Nyc Wine Store

New York City, Whole Foods has been forced by New York state liquor officials to stop selling wine in its flagship store on Columbus Circle in Manhattan, according to a report in the New York Times. The state contended that the grocer violated a law which requires that wine and liquor stores must have a separate, street level entrance and also cannot sell food. Located on the lower level of the Time Warner Center, the Whole Foods lacked a street level entrance, and, of course, sells food. Whole Foods, which has surrendered its liquor license, is paying a $5,000 fine and selling off its stock. Pleading no contest to the charges, the grocer said the store has not changed since it was presented to state officials when it applied for a liquor license.

The newspaper report indicated that local liquor stores may have put pressure on state officials to take action on Whole Foods. When the grocer opens a separate liquor store near its new downtown Manhattan location, local retailers are also expected to protest, according to the report.

Why Is Whole Foods Delaying The Requirement

Whole Foods Wine Store

The reason is that the USDA is also enacting standards for manufacturers to disclose and label GMO-containing products. In a statement provided to Food & Wine, Whole Foods clarified that its decision to postpone its own labeling requirement was due to the forthcoming government standard, saying:

As the USDA finalizes the Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standardand the food industry assesses the impact, we have decided to pause on our September 1, 2018 deadline for our GMO Labeling Policy. We remain committed to providing our customers with the level of transparency they want and expect from us and will continue to require suppliers to obtain third-party verification for non-GMO claims.

Whole Foods, according to the letter sent to suppliers, wishes to avoid any undue additional costs or challenges to food manufacturers based on the USDAs guidelines.

Whole Foods Wine Store Could Be Whole Lot Of Trouble For Small Guys

When Frank Giresi, his wife and his business partner first opened their wine and liquor store in 1989 on Elizabeth St. in what is today called Nolita, the block was overrun with heroin and crack, Giresi said. Now their store, Elizabeth & Vine, is tucked between Soho Baby and a Nike iD Design Boutique. And Giresis biggest concern isnt drugs on the block, but the impending arrival of a 5,000-square-foot Whole Foods wine shop on E. Houston St.

In 2006, a two-floor Whole Foods is scheduled to open at Avalon Christie Place on E. Houston St. between Christie St. and the Bowery. Kate Lowery, a spokesperson for Whole Foods, confirmed that the new store is in the process of applying for a liquor license for a separate 5,000-square-foot wine shop at the E. Houston location. The wine shop will be a perfect compliment to our food selection, she said.

This would be the fourth Whole Foods Market to open in Manhattan. The high-end supermarket chain, which specializes in natural and organic foods, already has markets in Union Sq., Chelsea and Columbus Circle. The Texas-based company has a total of 170 locations throughout North America and the United Kingdom.

In addition to surrendering its license, which was placed in safekeeping with the authority, Whole Foods also had to pay a civil penalty of $5,000. According to state law, not more than one retail liquor license can be granted to any one individual, corporation or company.

Meats. The organic, ethically produced meats of Whole Foods are well-known. However, you can now get cage-free, free-range, or organic options at other shops, and at lower costs. In a broader sense, Morgan Stanley found that Whole Foods meat costs were 34% more than those of a conventional supermarket shop.

Find A Perfect Pairing

Having a Wine department inside of a grocery store is kind of perfect. Whether youre shopping for dinner or a special occasion, having all the ingredients in your cart makes it easy to find a perfect wine to match. My favorite advice is to match the weight of the wine with the weight of the food. Choose a lighter wine for a spring salad with vinaigrette or a heavier red to go with a hearty pasta.

What Are Substitutes For The Lychee Wine

Kroger, Walmart, Whole Foods, Big Lots, Target, Meijer, Five Below, Total Wine Haul 2/24/22-2/26/22

Here are some good substitutes for Lychee Wine if you dont find Lychee Wine in grocery store:

1. Rose wine

Rose wine is often used as a stand-in for lychee wine. It has a similar sweetness and light body, making it a good choice for those who want to replicate the taste of lychee wine. Additionally, rose wine is typically easier to find than its fruity counterpart.

2. White grape juice

Another option is white grape juice. This beverage can provide the same sweetness as lychee wine without the alcohol content. It is also a good option for those who are looking for a non-alcoholic alternative.

3. Sparkling grape juice

Finally, sparkling grape juice can be used as a substitute for lychee wine. It has the same light and refreshing taste, making it a good choice for those who want to enjoy the flavor of lychee without the alcohol.

Can I purchase wine by the bottle at the Whole Foods in Columbus Circle? Just wondering where we can get something to have in the hotel room, and cant seem to find many liquor stores in mid-Manhattan.

In New York wine and other alcohlolic items is only sold at liquor stores. Food stores wont sell wine, but a few of them have a liquor store right next store, separate entrance, and only one allowed in the state. I know, crazy, but our constitution says the states can make any law they want in this area.

Whole Foods Market Opens New Wine Store In Manhattan

Manhattan finally has a Whole Foods Market wine store on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Eager to explore, I popped along to see what exciting wines I could find!

This is Whole Foods fourth attempt at selling wine in New York City. The store at Columbus Circle was deemed illegal under New York State Liquor Authority law, and licenses for both the Bowery and Union Square Whole Foods stores were denied. Under New York law, a wine store must be freestanding and separate from the food store. Additionally, chains of wine stores are not allowed so this will be Whole Foods only NYC wine store.

The store, located on Columbus Avenue and 98th, is certainly well stocked, and it carries about one thousand different wines. It has a section dedicated to New York wines, which you dont see very often. It is bright and welcoming with friendly staff. Being a regular food shopper at Whole Foods, I was quite hopeful of discovering all sorts of interesting wines, especially some Whole Foods exclusives.

FRAMINGHAM, MA Framinghams Whole Foods store is on its way to being the first full-service grocery store in the city to sell alcohol.

The Board of Licensing Commissioners on Monday approved a transfer of a package store license from the former Warehouse Wine and Spirits, which used to occupy a space alongside the Whole Foods store until its closure last winter.

The addition of alcohol at the store comes before a planned expansion of the surrounding shopping plaza. When complete in 2022, the Whole Foods will expand with an addition behind the store, and will remain open during construction.

Who knew that Whole Foods was a den of illegal alchoolic beverage sales? Well, NY State, for one. The wine store at the Whole Foods at Columbus Circle’s Time Warner Center/Mall has shuttered because it did not have a separate entrance. Wine shops are supposed to have a separate entrance, and the Whole Foods management were probably saying, “Damnit! We should have known there was something wrong with this basement setup!” to themselves. The wine shop’s license will be transferred to the Whole Foods that’s set to open on East Houston Street the wine store will have its separate entrance on Chrystie Street. The NY Times reports that Whole Food “will use the space in the Time Warner store for an expanded coffee bar, a gelato counter and more checkout lines.” While we love us some coffee and gelato, Gothamist votes for more checkout lines. Gothamist always forgets that when we go to the Time Warner Center Whole Foods that the lines suck. First of all, they don’t move that fast. Second, they snake so long that it’s all we can do to not drop our grocery baskets and run out of the store crying.
