Wtf Is Natural Wine Anyway

Sweet Berry Wine Review! Las Jaras x Taco Bell pairing…

Sande Friedman the wine buyer for Di Bruno Bros. and a Philly Wine Week board member shares why everyone is obsessed with this new genre of drink.

The term natural wine is everywhere. What exactly is it?

Its a catch-all term for wines that are made without any chemical or technological interventions meaning no additives like extra sugar or shelf stabilizers.

Hows that different from conventional wine?

Natural wines are made like they were back in the day, with hand-harvested grapes and natural yeast. Conventional winemakers harvest grapes with giant machines and ferment with purchased yeast. Unlike conventional producers, natural winemakers arent purposely adding extra sugar to up alcohol levels and encourage the wine to ferment more quickly.

What does that mean for flavor?

With conventional winemaking, winemakers have a general idea of what they want their cab or merlot to taste like, but in natural winemaking, its more about the expression of those specific grapes from the area, climate, maker, soil, etc.

Does less sugar mean less of a hangover?

Generally, its less additives that mean less hangovers. But when theres less added sugar, hangovers arent nearly as bad.

Why has this become a big thing in Philly?

Okay, were sold. Where do we start?

Las Jaras Glou Glou : Your New Favorite Chillable Red Wine

Dear Las Jaras Glou Glou 2020,

Im new to the whole chillable red wine thing. That whole easy drinking red wine vibe that all of the cool kids keep talking about. But, now that Ive discovered them, these refreshing red wines are something I cant live without!

That brings me back to you, Las Jaras Glou Glou 2020. You have more acid and fruit than Jimmy Hendrix at the Monterey Farmers Market, and you know what? I dig it.

And that carbonic maceration thing you have going on? That little pop and fizz? That puts you at the top of my summer glou glou wine list.

I was so excited to try this ridiculously refreshing red wine, that I forgot to take a proper photo for the blog. What did I do instead of carefully staging a photo? I poured a glass and let your bright fruit take me on a magic carpet ride.

Las Jaras Wines says you, like their other wines, pair well with circle foods . Glou Glou 2020, I say you pair well with pretty much anything summer-related: the beach, sitting on the patio at sunset, picnics, BBQs. You get the idea.

I know Im gushing – or glouing? But I just want to say one last thing. My friends all love chillable, chuggable, easy drinking red wines too, and I cant wait to introduce you!

Should you serve Glou-Glou Chilled?

Where can you buy Las Jaras Wines?

Las Jaras Wines are available on their website store, or via this list of purveyors.

Where In California Is The Wine Country

The Californian wine country is in the North San Francisco Bay area, with over 800 wineries located all along this scenic route. The Bay area encompasses some of the world’s most famous wine regions, including Napa Valley and Sonoma.

The success of these famous regions within the Bay area is largely to do with the sound soil composition and ideal climatic conditions. Each region is fortunate to have a wide range of temperatures and soil types, allowing the brilliant variety of grapes to thrive here.

Todays Wine: 2020 Superbloom Cuve Zero Zero

#BordeauxWine How to Start a Home Wine Cellar Featuring a Bordeaux Wine Collection

27% Marsanne, 16% Roussanne, 16% Grenache Noir, 14% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache Blanc, 10% Carignan, 7% Picpoul Blanc 10.9% ABVThe 2020 Superbloom is deep salmon in color with pinkish hues, and its slightly hazy. This needed about 30 minutes to open in the glass, as there were some funky aromas that needed to blow off. The aromas are of medium intensity, with the nose showcasing notes of watermelon, grapefruit, white cherry, strawberry, white rose, and saline. Meanwhile the palate displays notes of raspberry, strawberry, candied watermelon, mild white pepper, and stony mineral. This dry rosé is light-bodied with medium acidity, low alcohol, and a medium length finish. Very chuggable and fun but I wish the finish was a bit longer. 1,500 cases produced.Price: $27. I sought this wine from my local wine shops for quite some time, and am glad to finally find it since Im a big fan of Joel and Eric. This is a very fun, chuggable, and interesting rosé made from quite the blend of co-fermented varieties, however I think for the price there are better values out there.
