Savannah National Wildlife Refuge

My two boys spent two hours here last October and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There was plenty to see – check out the website for all of the animals. Wagons can be cheaply rented from the front desk which was ideal for my 2 year old who would have struggled to walk the whole way. I particularly liked the diversity of the refuge and the boardwalk out into the everglades. Baby crocs are kept in the museum shop in the main building. My boys liked seeing the babies up close. Overall, a great visit for any family with kids. We will certainly visit again on our return to Savannah next year.

The museum was wonderful. You really shouldnt miss stopping here. Very educational for all ages. The staff was part volunteer and part paid. Our guy had a brother who actually flew during WW II. He had fantastic stories to share. Parking was plentiful and it was easy access from I-95.

Reviews For Butterducks Winery
Wonderful experience. I called first to make sure that they were dog friendly. They are, but not in the store. We sat outside and enjoyed a wine flight and a cheese and fruit platter. Bought some bottles to take home. They are off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. Staff was very helpful. We cant wait to go again and take some friends.

Oh How I Miss You Butterducks Winery

First off let me preface this post by saying that I am not a wino but I visit wineries and sample varieties of wine for my readers. LOL
Last year during Spring Break I had the pleasure of visiting Butterducks Winery located just outside of Savannah, Georgia in Effingham County. One of my good friends, Vanessa, that I grew up with located the winery since she knew Id be in town and how much I LOVE wine!
Butterducks Winerys setting is absolutely peaceful and beautiful. Outside are areas where you can sit , sip on your wine and enjoy the scenery. Inside we were greeted by a very nice lady who made us feel right at home. She was so much fun and damn near made me want to buy every wine they sold!
The winery had a few tasting plans where you could purchase a wine glass with samplings. We went for the smaller wine glass and 6 wine samples. I fell in love with the Sweet Peach Wine. It was just like taking a bite out of a ripe peach pure heaven! I also purchased another bottle of Super Sweet Blackberry Bliss.
Pardon my lipstick print! LOL
Damn we make 40 look good!!!
I had an absolute blast while at the winery and please be sure to visit them if you live or visit the Savannah area. Hope you enjoyed this weeks Wine Wednesday! Want to know more about the winery and check them out for yourself:

This blend of Müller-Thurgau and Riesling grapes offers slightly candied apple flavors marked by lemon and smoky nut tones. Light in body and medium sweet in style, its an uncomplicated, fruity sip best enjoyed young. Anna Lee C. Iijima

Butterducks Winery Releases New Wine
GUYTON – The lone winery in Effingham County has added a new wine to its repertoire of unique blends specific to the growing region of South Georgia.
Butterducks Winery recently has introduced Sweet Peach, a light white wine bursting with the fresh smell and taste of the finest Georgia-grown peaches.
Owners Bill and Barbara Utter also have announced they will re-release their Blueberry and Sweet Blueberry wines.
“Blueberry wine has been in short supply and in limited release this year due to the frost at Easter, which destroyed most of the Georgia blueberry crop,” Barbara Utter said.
According to the winery’s Web site, the Utters are soon expecting to release a Blackberry Merlot, a Super Sweet Blackberry Merlot and a signature Savannah Red, which will be a sangiovese/merlot blend.
Butterducks Winery prides itself on exclusively using Georgia-grown fruits in its wines, which are all made on premises in their facility on Blue Jay Road in Guyton.
The winery also has a gift shop filled with gift baskets and wine-related items for Christmas. Holiday hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The winery also will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Christmas Eve.

My husband and I rented a canoe to calmly explore this exquisitely lovely Ebenezer Creek by ourselves. Larry encouraged an earlier start than noon and we’re glad he did, because Saturday afternoon became busy. He was there promptly with the canoe at the start and had a sixth sense about when we’d be back so arrived to meet us just before we could call! The rental price was fair and we especially liked it was not per-hour, so we didn’t need to keep an eye on the time. The beauty of the creek is magical — we went in mid-February before the leaves were out, but the trees would be stunning in any season. This was our Savannah trip highlight.

This is by far the BEST Rest Area/Welcome center I have ever stopped at. Then I never would of thought about reviewing a Welcome Center. Most Rest Areas/Welcome Centers are dirty, crowded, unappealing and sometimes scary. This is brand new and absolutely beautiful. It’s been a long time coming but well worth the wait. We travel I-95 quite often and only having portables at this stop has been difficult. The building is lovely on the outside but once you step inside it has a museum like quality. It feels like you are walking through a Georgia forest with Forrest Gump. I love the information available, the people that work there and all the displays. The bathrooms are shiny clean and wash and dry your hands at the same time. Seating inside with plenty of room to stretch and take a break from the intense heat. If only they had an inside area for pets. Outside is also clean with swings and picnic area. Plenty of parking. I hope they keep the area clean and sparkly as it is now and it doesn’t end up as just another rest stop.
