The Coppola acquisition is beginning to generate potential sales buzz for Delicato, too, though it remains to be seen just how well Coppola will perform for the company.

Its Got A Great Shelf Life*

Once opened, bag-in-box wineyes, literally a plastic milk-bag-style bag of wine in a cardboard boxis good for about a month or six weeks. Compared with an open bottle of wine, which starts to lose its charm after a day or two, the box is great for when you just want a glass and dont want to commit to a whole bottle.

Why does boxed wine have such a great shelf life? The plastic bladder inside the box collapses as its emptied, which protects the liquid from oxygenwines frenemy. A little aeration opens up a wine, but too much will mute the fruit and give it a nutty taste.

Sidenote: Were talking BIB wine here. Carton wine , once opened, lasts about the same amount of time as an open bottle of wine.

Bota Box Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Review

Before there was Bota Box, there were bota bags. The traditional Spanish pouches, complete with carrying straps and nozzles, were historically used as portable wine holders. Bota Box opts for mylar bags instead of leather skins, but the ultimate purpose of the bags and boxes is the same: to make wine more mobile. Bota Box is named after those bags that, throughout history, helped travelers quench their thirst while on the go.

After Dark Fun? Bota Box Nighthawk Black Red Wine Blend Review

The boxed wine industrys emphasis on its environmental benefits is, in part, a marketing tactic. Still, its true that the environmental footprint of boxed wine is lower than that of bottles, and that transporting heavy glass bottles cross-country has a more negative environmental impact than transporting lightweight bags.

Bota Box plays up this good-for-the-world perk on its packaging. Each box is stamped with an environmentally friendly box logo. The wine cartons are also 100 percent recyclable, thanks to the unbleached, post-consumer fiber material theyre made of and sustainable ink print on the package design.

Even though BIB wine has a longer shelf life than a bottle, it will go off eventually, so keep in mind that a three-litre box is the equivalent of 20 glasses of wine. People who get bored with the same food and drink night after night should think carefully about committing to the same wine for an entire month.

Its also perhaps a little too easy to keep going back to the box for a refill. Opening a second bottle of wine is a decision mindlessly tapping the box for another splash could easily become habit-forming.

How We Do It

It starts in the vineyard. We harvest our grapes earlier in the season to pick at lower BRIX . This results in lower alcohol and sugar content in the final wines. As you lower the alcohol levels, it results in lower calories. Likewise, with sugar, once sugar starts to decrease so do the carbs!

Bota Box Wines Ranked Worst To Best

Back in the day, boxed wine was known for having a notoriously bad taste. It was something to be avoided in most cases, and so glass bottles were much preferred by the discerning wine enthusiast. However, these days, the tide has turned. More and more people are realizing that there are actually some quality boxed wines out there. And not only are they often cheaper than many alternatives, but they also stay good for longer. That’s perfect for people who live alone or who don’t tend to drink too regularly. And of course, turning up to a party with a box of wine is probably going to win you automatic popularity points.

While there are several great boxed wine brands out there, one of our favorites is Bota Box. This brand offers a slew of different types of wine and tends to be pretty widely available. Are they making the most interesting, revolutionary wine out there? Well, no, not exactly. But are they making quality standard wines that just about everyone will enjoy sipping? Absolutely yes.

That’s why we’ve decided to take a closer look at the brand and rank their wines from worst to best. We started out with our least favorites and worked our way to the ones we think are best of the Bota Box brand. But while you can use our ranking as a guide, know that you should definitely try them out for yourself.
