Old World similarities include an undeniable brightness from acidity, as well as notes of herbs, graphite and a dusty, sometimes gravelly minerality.

2017 Zuccardi Serie A Torrontés, IP Salta, Argentina
This recently released wine is proof Torrontés, Argentinas flagship white can be marvellous when carefully made by a talented winemaker. It starts with seductive scents of white flowers and sliced orange. Then, the crisp, clean attack slips like silk across the palate with shy suggestions of rose, orange, passion fruit, white flowers and pear all tightly wound and shot through with mouthwatering acidity. Then, after the swallow, a slightly chalky texture is left behind, holding a finish of citrus zest in place for ages. This wine tastes cool, delicate and bone dry. Serve it with miso-sesame chicken, fish tacos or spicy Indian curry dishes.
