Where In California Is The Central Valley Located

The Central Valley is situated in the middle of California.

This vast valley is known as the Great Valley of California as it stretches out 50 miles in width and 400 miles in length situated between the mountainous areas of this renowned wine region.

The northern half of Central Valley includes Sacramento Valley, where the southern half is better known as San Joaquin. Both these valleys are highly fertile and account for more than half of Californias wine production.

The region is known for growing a vast variety of different grapes and producing spectacular wines. The wine grapes grown in Central Valley California include Colombard, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Syrah and Barbera. Harvest time in Central Valley is the best time to visit the region since there is so much celebration and festivity during these months. Some grapes, especially when used for sparkling wine, is harvested in early July where robust red grapes are left until early to mid-October.

The Matchbook Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from grapes grown entirely in our Estate Dunnigan Hills vineyards. The wine opens with enticing aromas of saddle leather, cigar box and mesquite. The mouth-coating flavors of blackberry, black cherry, clove and star anise linger in the long finish. This is a substantial Cabernet with big chewy tannins that will pair well with the big flavors of a slow roasted prime rib, a hearty beef stew or a sizzling New York strip steak.
