What happens when you drink wine every day? The side effects are not as bad as you may assume. In fact, it can do a body good. Wine has some great health benefits. It just so happens to be the best beverage to drink regularly for a longer life, it may protect your heart, it could reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and it can help reduce ‘bad’ cholesterol levels.
But if you want to reap these benefits rather than drinking alcohol’s downfalls , then you’ll want to make sure you’re drinking the right amount of wine. So how much wine is too much?
You’ll often see the same phrase again and again when it comes to reaping wine’s health benefits: it has to be in moderation.
What moderation means according to the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans is up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men. For wine, a drink is defined as 5 fluid ounces at 12% alcohol by volume.
While this is the USDA’s recommended limit for those who drink, it is not a recommendation to actually consume that amount of alcohol. According to the USDA, “those who do not drink should not begin to drink because they believe alcohol would make them healthier.”
That being said, alcohol can be consumed at low levels with relatively low riskand can actually offer some health benefits if you make sure to consume it in moderation. Let’s take a look.

Walmart Makes Large Claims For These Wines Do They Live Up To The Hype

I traveled 50 miles just to find them.
Well, to be entirely honest, I was also up in Napa for the opening of the new Gamling and McDuck tasting room.;
But there’s a Walmart nearby and the grocery chain had promised that its new Winemakers Selection offers; $11 wines that taste;like $40 wines.
The Napa Walmart didn’t have any. Indeed, I couldn’t find a Walmart that did. So I was sent five of them from HQ to taste.
When it comes to evaluating a wine, I’m not a sipper. In my occasional Alcohol By Volume series, I try and live with a wine by drinking at least a bottle.;
I know the professionals sip and spit.
I’m a mere human who likes some wines and doesn’t like others. I think there are more of me than there are professionals and my sort of people find some wine experts pretentious;and spiteful.
We, on the other hand, prefer to drink more than a spitful.
Walmart sent me five of the reds, so I randomly chose the Italian;Red Blend as my first victim.
This is, allegedly, “a blend of red from across the most important Italian wine regions : Puglia , Abruzzo , Sicily and Veneto .”
It’s also among the best $10.96 wines I’ve ever tasted.
This Red Blend had a remarkable depth of texture. It was like meeting a crass Wall Street banker and hearing him talk intelligently about global warming. Or at least the collected works of Britney Spears.
Walmart Uncorks Own Wine Label
Catering to consumers seeking new experiences in the wine aisle, Walmart entered the private label wine market earlier this year with the launch of its own wine brand: Winemakers Selection.
Walmart’s wines are not intended to compete with the likes of Trader Joe’s private label Charles Shaw wines better known as “two-buck Chuck” or other super-low-priced;varieties. While Walmart’s initial assortment is modestly priced between $10 and $16, the bottles are meant to “drink like a $30 to $40 bottle of wine,” Walmart senior adult beverage buyer Nichole Simpson told;USA Today.
Rolled out to some 1,100 stores, the introductory collection includes 10 wines including a French sparkling rose, an Italian sangiovese from Tuscany and a Californian cabernet sauvignon from Paso Robles, CA.
In its “Tips & Ideas” blog, Walmart outlined the intention behind giving each wine an individual label to reflect the history of the individual varietals and the regions they came from. While the labels are all unique, each bottle bears the same elaborate “W” insignia to distinguish Walmart’s own offering from the rest of its extensive wine assortment.
The debut has been largely well received. Rather than focusing on what was available quickly at scale, Walmart used a more intentional approach to sourcing. The adult beverage buying team had traveled to meet with growers and winemakers, and blind tested every option they considered, the;Washington Postreported.

The Collection Includes Five Core Wines
The new and improved Winemakers Selectionwhich Walmart just announced it relaunched late last weekgoes for just $5 and will feature five core varieties. The collection will now only include Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Rosé, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Red blend all of which are sourced from California.
“This relaunch is all about our customers, simplifying the branding, making it clearer, making sure the items are what our customers are looking for, and then of course over-delivering on the quality of wine for the price,” Jason Fremstad, vice president of adult beverage for Walmart, said in an interview with Grocery Dive.

Lets start here because this is the place where most of America buys wine.
Thanks to the three-tiered system, before a bottle of wine ever reaches a stores shelves, it has to go through a distributor.;The distributor is the only one legally allowed to sell to retail the same is true for restaurants which means the wine receives a markup even before you see the final price. In general, a distributor will take the price they paid the winery for the bottle and double it when they sell it to the store, so if the bottle cost the distributor $5, theyre selling it to the village wine shop for $10.

Once the bottle arrives in the stores hands, most outlets take the price they paid for the bottle and multiply is by 1.5 so if the store paid $10, you pay $15. This, however, is a generalization, because as we mentioned earlier, if the store is in a more expensive area of town or has a large amount of square footage, they may mark the bottle up a bit more than 1.5 to help make their margin and cover their costs. On the other end, some big box outlets such as Costco, Walmart and Trader Joes will mark the wine up less than the 1.5 multiple, either to use the wine as a loss leader or because their buying power allows them to get a better price from the winery and distributor in the first place.

Last June, when it won best single-variety red costing under 15 pounds in Decanters annual World Wine Awards, consumer demand crashed the website of Asda supermarkets, La Monedas exclusive retail outlet. Demand spiked so high that Asdas parent company, Walmart, decided to sell the wine in the United States.
So last fall, Walmart introduced the La Moneda Malbec into 577 of its 4,600 or so U.S. stores, priced at $6.96 a bottle. Having tasted a sample, I can tell you it is really good, and it was still delicious and lively three or four days after opening, my unscientific way of assessing wine quality.
Unfortunately, it is not available in Washington-area Walmart stores or possibly in any Walmart. A company spokesman says the initial U.S. allotment sold through over the holidays. Furthermore, its unclear whether U.S. customers will ever be able to buy La Moneda. The supplier is already selling Walmart the 2016 vintage, but only for the U.K. market, and the spokesman would say only that the company is always looking for new opportunities to offer similar values for its American customers.

According to Eat This, Not That!, Walmart’s Winemakers Selection wines originally debuted in 2018. Excellent Wine ; But Buy It At Walmart Cheaper
The Stone Hill Winery offers a free wine tasting and tour. We enjoyed the tour. They state on the wine tasting list and during the tour that their award winning STEINBERG WHITE is their number one best seller. We bought a bottle and it is very good. We also enjoyed the JACQUESSE KICK’N BERRY. In September 2011 they were offereing buy one case and get one free. Too much for us because of shipping cost but a very good price.Now if you aren’t buying by the case, here is a tip to save you money. You can buy the Steinberg White as well as several other bottles of wine they offer at the Walmart one mile down the road off Green MountaIn Road. . The Walmart price was $4.00 cheaper per bottle for the Steinberg White. Other Stone Hill winery wines were also much cheaper at Walmart. So much for the “free” samples during the tour. If you can’t find what you want at Walmart it is a short drive back to the winery store.

La Moneda Reserva Malbec 2015
This wine was named the best wine of 2016;for a reason. It is sweet, but not too sweet. It’s the perfect combination between vanilla and some spice, which allows it to blend with multiple food choices wether they are sugary or not.;
You do not need to spend too much money on wine. Remember, a higher price doesn’t mean a wine is higher quality. I found these wines at my local Walmart, but you can purchase them online as well.;
