The term grape variety refers to cultivars rather than actual botanical varieties according to the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants, because they are propagated by cuttings and may have unstable reproductive properties. Does our choice of wine to go with dinner have any influence on the music that we choose to accompany the meal? I expect this decision is intuitive, at best, for most of us. We pick a wine that we like, perhaps choosing something that we hope will pair well with the food. But do we do the same when we decide which favorite tracks to bring up to set the mood? Do specific wines pair well with specific tunes? Does Bordeaux go with Beethoven, for example, while The Beatles require Pinot Noir?
This may sound like a clickbait headline or maybe something from The Onion, but now we have a serious study, reported in The Academic Wino, that seeks to discern such a relationship through rigorous study.
The effect of music on ones psychological behavior has been studied over and over again throughout the scientific literature, wrote Becca Yeamans-Irwin, who publishes the Academic Wino.

Wine Education : Summer Wines Keeping It Light
Summer is finally here! With summer comes sunshine, warm weather and most likely some poolside/patio wine drinking with friends. So, what are some good choices for your summer wine drinking that will keep you cool and refreshed? The key to great summer drinking wines is that they have a lighter body and a higher acidity. These wines will be refreshing and delicious when served chilled. Yes, even light-bodied red wines can be delicious when served slightly chilled.
When referring to a wines body it usually refers to a feel of weight in the mouth. Imagine the different mouthfeel you would experience with water or non-fat milk, then 2% milk, and finally full-fat milk or cream. This comparison will help you begin to understand what body means in wine. Most varietal wines have a body that is typical for that grape varietal. Wine components that increase a wines body or fullness include sweetness, glycerol, grape and yeast polysaccharides, and phenolic content . On the other hand, the perception of fullness can be decreased by acidity.
Want to drink a red wine on a hot day and still be refreshed? Choose a red wine with a lighter body and higher acidity , and serve it slightly chilled . A Pinot Noir is a great example, along with, Barbera, Blaufrankisch, Dornfelder, Freisa, and Sangiovese.

Who doesnt love Italian wine? I got my start in wine with the lovable wines of Italy, enjoying them at the homes of Italian-American friends before I was old enough to drink legally.

I sipped them at pizzerias when all I knew about wine was that Chianti from a wicker-wrapped bottle tasted surprisingly good with pizzas and pastas loaded with bright red tomato sauce and cheese. The empty bottle also made a cool candlestick, or so we thought at the time.
Ive never lost my love for all the wines of Italy, a joyously diverse mix that extends all the way from Val dAosta in the North to Sicily in the South. But a funny thing happened as I grew up and my interests in wine evolved: I got so busy exploring the rest of the worlds wine regions and grapes, from Italy to France and California that my Italian explorations gradually spiraled down to the usual suspects.

Alamos 2015 Mendoza Malbec
Very dark reddish-purple, all but opaque, with glints of ruby against the light.. Luscious red cherries join more subtle brown spices on the nose, leading into a juicy, tart red-cherry and plum flavor framed by crisp acidity, with a touch of freshly ground black pepper joining in. A noticeable buzz of tannic astringency builds in on the side of your tongue as the wine crosses your palate, and a bit of zippy citrus joins cherries, plums and a tannic buzz in a long finish. Mostly Malbec with a small but undisclosed percentage of Syrah and Bonarda in the blend 13.5% alcohol. U.S. importer: Alamos USA, Hayward, Calif.
FOOD MATCH: Argentina is famous for its beef grilled on the parilla, and it would be hard to imagine a better match for the countrys trademark Malbec smoky grilled vegetables would do the trick, too. We enjoyed it with a quick dinner of pinto beans in a cheese sauce with broccoli.
WHEN TO DRINK: Its just fine now, and the clean Diam technical cork should assure a few years of storage time without cork taint. Its not really intended for long-term aging, though. Id drink it up in the next year or two unless you have climate-controlled cellar conditions.
VALUE: My local price is within reach of the $9 average U.S. retail price reported by Wine-Searcher.com, which is a very good value for this Argentine table red.
